Burnt Memories is a project that tackles the sensitive subject of grief and bereavement through the delicate nature of smoked porcelain

By adding personal belongings of a loved one to the firing process, their memories are embedded onto the candleholders in the shape of unique marks.

Each type of item will leave a distinctive mark embedded on the clay

The slip-cast porcelain is burnished and bisque-fired before going into the fire.

The candleholders are wrapped in the selected objects and burn overnight in a mix of hardwoods and salts.

The fire cooks the clay while the smoke penetrates its porous body leaving its mark behind
